I am sorry to hear of Jack´s passing, but I am not surprised to learn that he lived a very full and rewarding life. I was a student of his in the late 1950´s at McGill. Having him as a professor inspired me to become an anthropologist, and I often reflect on my undergraduate days. Jack was a fine teacher in the classroom and an inspiring conversationalist outside the classroom.

I knew Jacob at Portland State University, where he was in the Anthropology department, my husband was in the English department and I was in the Library. After retirement a small group of us got together in the SMU for coffee once a week. Everyone was from a different department so the conversations were varied and interesting! Jack was a very engaged participant. I send my deepest condolences to his family and other friends. His work inspired hundreds of students!

Jacob was the best Anthroplogy professor in my educational experience. I think of him often and remember the great stories he would tell about his life experiences. He cared. A fine man. He will be well remembered.

I always enjoyed Jack's company and looked forward to our get togethers including neighborhood play readings and lunches out with our play reading companions. Among his other talents he was a master punster. I miss you, Gary.
