Jacob Harrison Obituary

Jacob Lattin Harrison passed away July 8 surrounded by his family.
Jake was born May 7, 1977. Like the characters he admired in comic books, Jake was a super hero in disguise. At the age of 4, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and valiantly battled it throughout his life.
He was unassuming in his demeanor but smart as a whip. He loved books and learning and would often share his opinion - whether you wanted him to or not. Jake truly enjoyed his job in the photo/electronics department at the Canyon Rim Smith's Marketplace. He loved interacting with customers and employees. He liked helping people and hoped he made their days a little better in the process.
Jake is survived by his parents: Kathy Lattin, and David (Stephanie) Harrison; siblings: Jennifer Lattin, Jonathan (Kristyl) Harrison, Jessica (Jared) Whiting, and Joshua (Relissa) Harrison; stepbrother: Randy (Terri) Harrison; and 16 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother-in-law.
The family would like to thank the numerous medical professionals who cared for Jake throughout his life. They would also like to thank the family of the anonymous donor whose gift of a kidney and pancreas gave Jake five extra years with his family.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you please make a donation to the Foundation for Children and Youth with Diabetes, donate blood or simply honor Jacob's memory by taking some time out of your day to read a book.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. Friends may call prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

We to knew Jake from Smiths, and just learned today af his passing. Jake was a delight to talk with and as you say, smart as a whip. Although we were just casual acquaintances we really enjoyed him. Jake, may you rest in peace. To his family, may his memories be a blessing.

I am a customer at Smiths and asked about him today. I was so saddened to hear he had passed. I love to play World of Warcraft and whenever I would see him, I would stop and say hello and would share my warcraft experiences with him and he would share back. I always enjoyed the few minutes I spent with him each time I saw him. He always made me smile. He had a wonderful sense of humor. I will miss him a lot, as I think of him each time I pass his department.

I've always liked Jacob. He introduced me to D&D, which I never got very good at, but had the pleasure of playing with him, Tom, Jeremy and others on several occasions. Jake's sense of humor and wit was quick, clever and always made me smile. His enthusiasm for the things he cared about was certainly contagious. He has now entered a world where the biggest adventures are not merely imagined, but are reality.

I'll never forget working with Jake. He made the job easier and far more entertaining. From laughing at my lame jokes to cracking wise about stupid things I did, there was never a dull moment to be had. I'm glad I met him, and I'll never forget him. He will be missed. Love ya, buddy.

Hello, Davey Dave and Stephanie,

I was sorry to read of the passing of your son. Diabetes is a nasty varmint that you have had to deal with in many ways for a long time. Jake was a dead ringer for you for sure and I wish you the deepest sympathy for your loss. Give me a call when things settle down in a couple of weeks at PIE and I'll take you both to lunch!

Your old friend in dentistry, Richie Rich!

Kathy and family, My heart is broken for you. Jake was such a unique person. He never ceased to amaze me with the things he would know. He was wise beyond his years. He was also the only person I've ever known who could read while he walked. He was one of a kind and he will be missed.
Love and prayers for peace and comfort today and in the days ahead.
