Not sure what to say?

Growing up in N.J.,your Dad was my brother,Bill LA Fleur's best friend and classmate. I remember him coming to our home to see my brother's train set and my parents were so pleased they could room together the first year at Calvin. I believe they also got their feet wet as counselors at Camp Roger. Although their lives took very different paths,I am grateful that Jake took time to connect with my brother when he came to Grand Rapids. He surely exemplified the character of Christ.

Jake was my cousin, and our families enjoyed many times together when I was a teen in Miami, FL. I especially remember when they welcomed Rohn into their family. Dr. Jay Vanden Bosch and I drove to a location to pick him up as it was a private adoption (they waited at my parents, Bob and Gert Heerema Baker) home for him to arrive). I'll always remember the awe and joy on their faces when I gave them baby Rohn--it was the first time they saw him! Jake loved to play with Rohn, and later with...

When he was at Bethany CRC in Holland he was pastor and friend to my parents, Bill and Alice Koning. When they moved to Freedom Village they tried to get Pastor Heerema and Marian to move there too. They were so special and loving. So thankful for their time and visits! Our sympathy to his family. Judy and Bill Van Appledorn

Eric and I were so blessed by Jake during his time as Chaplaincy Director. We send our sympathy and prayers for your comfort in your loss. Sincerely, Eric and Nancy Evenhuis

Many wonderful memories of Jake from the time we lived in Miami. He was a blessing! Thankful for his life!

Dear Heerema family, My prayers are with you all as you grieve the loss of your dad/ brother/ grandpa/ great grandpa. I lament the loss of a wonderful and gracious mentor and friend who guided me through my military career as a chaplain in the Army. I remember my case on the Synod Floor in 1998 for my endorsement for the military chaplaincy and when Jacob and Marian visited me in Fort Jackson, SC, during my chaplain officer basic course training as a chaplain candidate. I was genuinely...

My heartfelt sympathy to you, Ron, Lynne, and family as you say farewell for now to your dear father. What a gift he was to you and so many others - always with a warm smile, encouragement, and grace! I have fond memories of both your parents who stayed with me, my sister and brother when I was quite young and our parents were away.

I will always cherish Jacob´s loving and supportive friendship. Pastor Bob Koornneef

I am so fortunate to be among those who consider Pastor Jake as "their Best Friend" and there are many who feel that way. Now he is at home in Heaven with Marian after a long life of Service in God's Kingdom. He will surely be missed.
