Lieutenant Colonel Jacob G. Hellmann
Lieutenant Colonel Jacob G. Hellmann, United States Army, retired, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at age 89.
A native of Glen Ullin, North Dakota, he served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1963 and as a Federal Civilian Employee with the United States Army until 1982. He served in many countries including North Africa, Italy, Japan and Germany. He retired first to Fredericksburg, Virginia, and then Charlottesville, Virginia.
He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America and a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church, Spotsylvania, Virginia
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan (nee) Brunskill; two daughters, Jane M. Papadopoulos and her husband, Constantine, Sparks, Nevada, Elizabeth S. Lychenheim and her husband, David, Ellicott City, Maryland; one son, Peter J. Hellmann and his wife, Pattie, of Schuyler, Virginia; four grandchildren, Dorian, Sara, Teresa, and Jacob and various other cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Christ Episcopal Church in Spotsylvania, Virginia.
A service with full military honors will be conducted 11 a.m. February 11, 2009, at Arlington National Cemetery.
