Not sure what to say?

Jake was a great teacher and long time friend. He gave so many young people the gift of drumming and was so proud of ALL of his students. I will never forget him along with the 100's or 1000's of students he touched.

I just read about Jake's passing and wish to add my name to all those who valued his passion for teaching, love for all things percussion and wicked sense of humor. He was my percussion teacher at Evanston and I treasure the memories and the values he taught me that I still follow today. God speed.

Former 1964 Maine West Students
I just saw Jake's Obituary today.
With tears, I say thanks for your educational excellence. Even today I say I had an excellent percussion education. I am planning excellent drums in an excellent praise band in church. I know Roger is still playing out in Oregon. Our Maine West drum group played most of Jake's original compositions. We put on a drum show with him called the Percussarama in 1963. Morie Lashan sponsored the show. A number of us former...

I was a student of Jake's from Greeley School through Skokie Junior High and New Trier High School. I graduated from Indiana University after two years of study with George Gaber earning a Master of Music in Percussion Performance degree. Jake gave me the foundation to succeed. I stand proudly on his shoulders. Jim Holland

My condolences to the family of Jacob Jerger. Jake was my drum teacher while I was at New Trier West. I graduated in 1970. Jake was a dedicated teacher and exceptional drummer. I still remember my lessons from him, as if they were yesterday. Sincerely, Michael Kaye

Joanne and Family,

I owe so much to your wonderful Dad that my entire 25 years at the Maine Twp. H.S. would never have been the same without Jake. I was truly the luck teacher that Jake took under his wing and helped.

Jake was my drum teacher at Maine East around 1964 or so. He was a terrific teacher and mentor. His career spanned many schools and many students. His accomplishments as a teacher were amazing. My condolences to Joanne and her family. Jake will be missed by many.

Please accept the deepest sympathy for your loss from the Buddy Hughes family. Dad thought the best of Jake and enjoyed playing with him for the years they shared.

We have many memories of Jake when he was our son's drum and marimba teacher at New Trier. He was also a mutual friend of our friends Bert Rose and Bill Scott.

We haven't seen each other for a long time since we moved to Scottdale...but we remember him fondly...
