I am so sad...Jay was a true friend and one of the most knowledgeable people that I ever knew about the natural world, especially plants. Last year he traveled with me to Virginia Tech to help me research Augusta County's Plant Lady, Elizabeth Rawlinson. I will always treasure that day, our conversation in the car and all of his help at the herbarium at Tech just made for a wonderful outing. Wonderful memories. I am attaching a photo of Jay leading a hike to a shale barren.
