Not sure what to say?

I am 84 years old and decided to pick up my knitting again. I downsized years ago but fortunately saved all of my knitting needles and my copy of Jackie´s notes from the class she taught in Hingham back in the early 80´s. And as I look at my signed copy of the Sweater Workshop Book from 1983, can´t help thinking of Jackie and the wonderful memories in the class back then.

Jackie was a very cool lady. After acquiring the first edition of her book and learning so much from it, I asked her if you could use her method to knit an Irish sweater. She said she would think about that . Sure enough, the second edition of the book has directions for an Aran Fisherman´s pullover. She will be missed by many.

Today I took The Sweater Workshop of the shelf. I am planning a sweater for my great-nephew, Max, and her hooded sweatshirt sweater will be perfect. Her book is as relevant today as it was when it was written.
I treasure the memories of the times I spent with her ... her class at RISD, interviewing her for Knitting NOW, meeting at the Spa Weekends in Maine. She was so lovely, so generous with her knowledge; her legacy continues. I miss you, Jackie.

I must have 20 sweaters I've knit using the information from "The Sweater Workshop". It's beside me now. I googled her name out of curiosity and this obit came up. I'm saddened to hear of her passing. My deepest sympathies to the family for your loss.

Sincerely,

Jackie and I used to talk about Deer Isle whenever we chances to meet, and also about knitting, of course! I never had a chance to visit her on the island, as my husband and I are usually off-season visitors. Ironically, we happen to be here just after Memorial Day, and I thought of her. I was afraid she might no longer be with us, and a search brought me to her obituary. May the angels receive her in Paradise, and I'm sure our Father in Heaven will make sure she has access to plenty of wool!...

I will miss Jackie so much. I have so many fond memories of her. Praying for peace and comfort for all of her family.

SPA is upon us the end of February and you will be sadly missed making your appearance in the lobby of the Inn at Freeport Maine. You knew so many people and helped others get started with knitting. Esther from Maine

Definitely a life to be celebrated! A life that had such meaning. She brought happiness to so many.
I remember as a kid, when my parents had Pete & Jackie & Helen & Bill over to the house, it was always an entire evening of laughter (an evening that lasted until 2 or 3am!). What amazing parents we had. And once again, they are all together. Please reach out for anything. You have my number. Love from all the Borden kids. -Allyson, Ken, Holly & Neil
