Jackie was one of a kind. She said what she was thinking whether it was popular or not and she always stood for excellence. I respected her for that. I knew her since 1974 when I came to Downstate as the medical center's Affirmative Action Officer and was particularly interested in the few female faculty in the basic sciences. I had the honor to teach together with Professor Jackway for many years, and greatly benefited from her experience and profound knowledge. I will always remember her positive influence on faculty and students.

Dr Jakway will certainly be missed. Her warmth and good humor will always be remembered fondly.
