Not sure what to say?

I met Jackie in1990, at the University of Alabama, where we both were selected to participate in a seminar designed for Alabama history teachers from across the state. We immediately connected, as we were both from Washington County. Everyone, including our teachers, was very impressed by her work in trying to get the MOWA Indians recognized by the federal government and were sorry that that never happened. We all had a better understanding of our own band of Indians and the politics behind...

I am so sorry to hear Ms Matte passed. Of all of the teachers I had she was one who inspired students to think beyond what they were learning. I always appreciated the fact that the text book in her Alabama history class just wasn't good enough for her. She was a wonderful teacher.

I had the pleasure for many years to work with Jackie on the Federal Acknowledgement Project for the Choctaw Indians in Mobile and Washington County, Alabama. A truly remarkable lady. Smart, graceful and dedicated to the people that were in her life. Eternal rest to you. I feel honored to have known you.

I met Jackie several years ago at a water aerobic class. She was a very educated and interesting person. So glad I had the opportunity to listen to her stories and adventures. Praying God's comfort on her family during this difficult time, Sandra

My sincere condolences for the loss of Jackie, a brilliant and beautiful person. I didn't meet her till later in life but am thankful I did.

Mrs. Matte was a very dedicated and passionate teacher. I had her in 9th grade and remember thoroughly enjoying her class. You could tell she loved teaching and loved her students. 9th grade was a hard year for me and her class was always a bright spot in my day.

Mrs. Matte. That's how we all remember her. She was the teacher you wanted in 8th grade, because she was very sweet, very fair and really made learning fun. There is so much that still remains with me, from that year. I genuinely think on it often. I can remember presentations and papers on the four girls killed in the 16th St. Baptist Church Bombing. She taught us about the Indian tribes who lived in our regions of Northern Alabama. She was a truly gifted teacher, and she gave so much to so...

Absolutely the best teacher my boys had at MBJH. And I was better educated myself on Alabama history and our Indigenous People when asked to accompany her field trips! Will never forget her or what she did for Alabama!

Wonderful teacher! I saw her later in life at a library event and she remembered me. I think that says a lot. You are all in my thoughts and prayers....
