Jacquelyn V. (Sammons) Graves, age 80, of Council Bluffs, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010 at Mercy Hospital after a long illness.

She was born June 3, 1930 in Arnolds Park, Iowa to John and Winona (Russell) Sammons and graduated from Arnolds Park High School. Jacquelyn enjoyed fishing with her family and friends, painting, pruning her rose garden and reading numerous books. She played scrabble with close friends and loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and New York Yankees.

Jacquelyn was preceded in death by her birth father, John Sammons; parents, Nels and Winona Holmes; brother-in-law, Stuart Engdahl; sister-in-law, Marilyn Zediker.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Ted Graves, of Council Bluffs; five children, Kathryn (Graves) and Brad Schultze, of Ogallala, Neb., Mary Jo (Graves) and Jeff Bixler, of Council Bluffs, Chip and Cheryll Graves, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marcie (Graves) and Jack Marht, of Council Bluffs, John and Terri Graves, of Keystone, Neb.; sister, Joan (Sammons) Engdahl, of Omaha; two brothers, John (Linda) Sammons, of Yorba Linda, Calif., Jerry (Diane) Sammons, of Omaha; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral service, Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary with Reverend Dr. Eberhard A. Hering officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.

I was so sorry to hear about your loss. Jacque has always been one of my favorite people. We exchanged Christmas cards for years and I loved to hear from her on e-mails.
