They moved to Washington State in 1943 where Harley worked in the shipyards during WWll. After the war, they moved to their permanent residence in Longview, WA.
Jim watched the neighborhood kids after school for a part time job and earned his Eagle Scout Badge. He graduated as class president from RA Long High School in 1956, attended Lower Columbia College briefly and then enrolled in The Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle, WA where he would meet the love of his life, Gloria. He and Gloria (nee Mork) were married in Ferndale, WA on August 1st, 1959. God blessed them with a son, Corey James in 1964 and after a year and a half of owning Politos Donut Shop in Seattle, moved to St. Louis in 1965 for Jim to open and manage a Perkins Pancake House. God then blessed them with a daughter, Jessica Eden.
Jim worked for 25 years at Perkins and was a member of the Missouri Restaurant Association. He then worked at Smith-Scharff Paper Company where he was a sales representative supplying restaurants with disposable products until he retired at 70 years of age.
