Surrounded by Friends
Between the commute from Ridgewood, N.J., to New York and the time at work, a 12-to-14-hour day was normal, but James Munhall didn't mind. He enjoyed his job at Sandler O'Neill & Partners, an investment banking firm, where he was a managing director on the 104th floor of 2 World Trade Center, and besides, he was surrounded by close friends. But it was the sensitive husband and devoted father who looked forward to the weekends with his wife, Susan -- whom he met in 1988 when she was working as a vice president for Lehman Brothers -- and his 7-year-old daughter, Lauren.

"He and my daughter renamed Saturdays "Dad-urdays," Susan Munhall recalled. "He spent all his free time with her anyway, but that was their special day. They'd get bagels and the newspaper together in the morning, or work around the house or ride bikes together." Or Mr. Munhall, 45, would sit with his daughter at the dining room table, poring over the sports pages. "He was such a Yankee fan," she said. "And he taught her how to read the baseball stats."

Not sure what to say?

I knew Jimmy from Commack High School South. I remember him as this cute, friendly guy. I think I had a crush on him. When I saw his name in 2001, I was so hurt and sad for him and his family. Every year on September 11th I listen for his name to be read and pray for his wife and daughter.

Every anniversary of 9/11 I pray for Jim's daughter Lauren and her mother. I wear a bracelet that was given to me in honor of the 9/11 victims. Jim's name is on my bracelet. It has been 20 years now and Lauren is now a grown woman. Jim should have been able to be there sharing their dadder-days together along with all the important events a girl would want her dad to be there for. I just wan you to know Lauren...you have been being prayed for by a woman in California. I am now fighting...

I didn’t know James Donald Munhall, but I I did a virtual 5k today in remembering him and honoring him.

I miss you Jim. Lauren has grown to a beautiful caring woman. You would be so proud. Susan is doing well. You would be proud of her as well. We all miss you very much. My parents loved you more than anything, so did I. A brother I always wanted. I'm married now and speak of you all the time. How good a man you are. I can't wait to see you again.
Love,

Jim I miss you every day. I cried every morning for months - There was no reason - I could not accept the fact that it was over. Jim I will miss you until my last breath - I will never get over you being gone... I know that the world lost a great soul on 9/11. The world will suffer because of all the souls that were lost that day. Take care of Mom, Dad and Maureen until we meet again... Love Ka

Rest In Peace Jim! At least you're with your mother. I will never forget both of you.

Jim Munhall was a great guy. He and I worked together at Salomon Brothers. He had a great smile and was a positive attitude person. I will never forget him.
