JAMES F."JIMMY" ARMSTRONG, age 55, of Berea. Passed away May 15, 2014. He was the son of Mary Margaret "Maggie" Armstrong and the late William G. Jimmy was an exceptionally talented and popular vocalist, song writer and entertainer who performed standards and original compositions in greater Cleveland night clubs and restaurants for many years with his accompanist Eric Elliot. Embracing Cleveland's rock-and-roll heritage, and helping to shape the New Wave R&B movement in Cleveland, Jimmy and Mr. Elliott formed the musical group Pony Boys which opened for many national acts and in 1986 competed on the network television program Star Search. His work resulted in a successful album, several music videos and numerous recordings. He attended Berea High School and studied music at Baldwin Wallace College.

Not sure what to say?

I will listen to the Pony Boys just for you today.

I remember you for the music and for your sweet, gentle soul. Rest easy.

We miss you brother. Your music always made everyone happy.

I just found out about Jimmy's passing.

I have known him for over 30 years as we were both on the Cleveland music scene.

I will always have fond memories of Jimmy asking me to meet him at the Berea library where he handed me a bag filled with his collection of vintage ties.

My sincerest sympathy to the Armstrong Family. I have a lot of memories since I grew up right across the street. Sorry to hear of your loss

Dear Carrie, Jeannie and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Jimmy but Carrie I remember when we were in St. Mary's together and we lost my brother Tom, you were there for me so I want to at least offer my condolences to you and your family. It is so very hard to lose those that we love. Please know that I am thinking of you all and praying for you as well.

The death of a loved one is the worst event any family member can face. May you gain strength through the support of family, friends, God's Word, the Bible.

I was good friends with Jimmy in the '80s, but I lost touch with him over the last 20 years. But I'll never forget drinking black coffee all night in the Armstrong family kitchen and talking about life and girls and music. Jimmy was the sweetest, most generous, insightful and funny friend a guy could have. And the talent, the charm, the voice... he was truly his own person. I'm sorry I lost touch with him... my condolences to his family and loved ones.
