James Eli Averett Jr.

He was my doctor as a child, most people with osteogenis imperfecta don't ever make it to adulthood but because of him I did and went on to have my own family, I'm almost 60 now and I will never forget his kindness.

Dr. Averett had a reputation as a very fine doctor. My husband Wes and I knew him through our neighborhood and the community. His life made the world a better place for us.

I worked in the Operating Room at Piedmont with Dr. Averett for many years. I had the opportunity to see him recently and am grateful that I had the chance to remind him of a Saturday spent in OR 9. We had a young man whose femur was shattered into many small pieces. The xray looked horrible, our c-arm xray machine that allows you to see on xray where you are putting screws and plates was not working so he had to use 2 xray machines. Dear family of Bud Averett,
Bud and I were ATO Fraternity Brothers at Emory Univ. and worked together one summer at Camp Cherokee on Lake Burton. Since then, I have only had a few times to see Bud even though we, too, are members of Peachtree Presbyterian. I want to extend my sympathy to you and to say how much I thought of Bud and feel blessed to have known him.

I worked as a young orthopaedic surgeon at Piedmont Hospital in the 1990's. Your father was a pioneer in foot and ankle surgery, long before it was trendy or political. He always had a moment for a kind word of encouragement or to give a professional opinion if requested. May you find comfort in his many accomplishments during a life well lived!
