James L. Axtell

I send my condolences to the family. Jim certainly touched many people through his life. I´m sorry our families weren´t closer in many way.

So thankful to have been his student! I'm reminded of his guidance and wisdom all the time, particularly when I try to teach students to write. Thanks, Jim, for faithfully attending to so many students for so many years!

I am so saddened to find out that Jim has passed away. My deepest condolences to the Axtell family. Jim was a wonderful mentor and friend to me from my first semester teaching at W&M. I will miss his wit, charm, intellect, and friendship.

"Dr. J" was a mentor and friend and will be missed dearly. I am so grateful to have known Jim and to have benefited from his wit, creativity, and always tough questions! Thank you, Dr. J, for being my teacher, in so many ways, for so many years.

My sincere condolences to the Axtell family. I did not know that Susan had passed away. She was a wonderful customer at the Williamsburg Farmers Market, and often bought cookies for Jim. I always loved to chat with her.
