Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

Noank- James “Jim” F. Bailey passed away on December 16, 2022, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Hartford on April 29, 1940, to Charlotte Sperry and Harry Bailey.  He moved to Poquonnock Bridge in 1943 and picked a lot of potatoes at a young age at the Ackley Farm for spending money. He graduated from Robert E. Fitch High School where he loved sports and was the captain of the basketball team.

Jim worked for Pfizer for 27 years and when he left in 1986, started his business, U.S. Glass, finally retiring in 2000.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Hoffman Bailey, son Michael and wife Lisa, of Gales Ferry, daughter Jamie Garcia, of Lake Worth, FL; brother Bruce and wife Sun, of Uncasville, Sister-in-law Carolyn, of Groton; Grandsons, Tony Ryan Garcia and family of Conroe, TX; and Cory James, of Gales Ferry; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to our neighbors Jeri and Larry Comstock for their kindness.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Russell and Gilbert, and grandson Jonathan Smith.

Jim loved his kids, enjoyed his garden, cooking, eating, drinking, golfing, and being with family and friends. Our crazy world has lost a good, kind person. We miss him.

Per Jim’s wishes there are no services. Donations in his memory may be made to the Groton Food Bank/Social Services, 2 Fort Hill Road, Groton, CT 06340.
