Dear Ballance Family,
I recently acquired a numbered print of James’ (1978)? “Help is on the Way,” likely the same one as Rosemary below has. I was drawn to it within 20 seconds of spotting it, unframed and hanging by clothespins. I wanted to learn so much more about the artist and the story but so very sadly, came upon this information instead. Please accept my condolences, many many years too late, on the loss of such a gifted talent and revered man. I am trying vehemently to pair up...

I have some of his work. I am moving and found so much I did not know we had. My husband who
Passed
Away in
1990 has two of Mr Ballances works, Help is on the way. Firehouse and Police. I remember him purchasing one at a Secret Service Dance we were at back in 1990

Ballance,
You will be so missed. I know you're in an awesome place now, sketching the wonders we cannot see; someday we will though. I know you are so proud of those 2 boys, as I am of my 2 girls. You're one of a kind. Your Memorial Service was touching and still I find it so hard to believe that you're gone. But never forgotten.......... I was telling Shorty Sizemore how it seems that you were one of those people who was supposed to be around forever.

I personally did not know Jim but am writing for my 24, year old daughter, Lauren.
She often spoke of him coming into Fidelity Bank on High Point Road and checking in on all the tellers when she worked there. She said he would bring doughnuts and "look after them to make sure they were safe."
As a mother I always worried about the area and Lauren being in that bank. One time an incident occurred and Lauren said within minutes he appeared on the scene, ready to provide safety...

To Jill, Christopher, Nick, and the rest of the Ballance family !

I wrote to you in this guest book as soon as I heard of Jim's passing. Well, since the service was held on 3-19-06 I've heard from five other explorers that were
friends with Jim but now live in other states. Four of these folks
were never members of the Greensboro City Police Departments Explorer Post. They were members of the Greensboro City Fire Departments Explorer Post. One young lady is a Captain with...

We knew Jim Ballance in a business relationship, but we found him to be one of the nicest, most talented and humorous people we have ever met. We send our heartfelt condolences to Jim's sons and Jill and the rest of his family. We will miss him.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Ballance family. I would also like to express my regret to the citizens of Greensboro, as we have all lost a true public servant. I had the honor of calling Jim a friend for 14 years, and have never met a man of such strength and character.

Nick and Chris-like I told you guys before, you will never be alone in this world. Anytime you need ANYTHING (except large amounts of cash) all you have to do is holler. Jim treasured you both, and as Gary...

I met Jim Ballance back around 1999 at Hooters in Greensboro. I had been there several times and would see him there on his break or eating a meal from time to time. One day I went up to him and introduced myself and that was all it took. When he found out that I was an Officer the talk was on. He showed me his art work and told me about his website, I think his son had set it up for him. Each time after that when I would see him which may be weeks or months apart he would speak as if he had...

A tremendous loss to all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with Jim. His artwork is displayed with pride in our home and will always evoke many wonderful memories. He fought the valiant fight. He will be missed by family, friends and coworkers. Our deepest sympathies.
