James H. Barren Sr.
February 1, 1934 – May 18, 2021
Rev. James Henry Barren Sr., a native of Morvin, AL and a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL departed this life on May 18, 2021 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital. He was born February 1, 1934 to Cleveland Barren Sr. and Blanche (Herron) Barren in Morvin, AL. He worked at Scott Paper Company for over 30 years before he retired. He was a member of the Men's Singing Aggregation for many years and a singer in a quartet group by the name of Five Silver Kings. He was a member and Deacon of Central Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Leroy Boykin; later, under the leadership of Rev. Harry Pugh Sr. He received and accepted his calling into the ministry after assisting Rev. E. B. Primm during his sickness at Orange Hill Baptist Church in Grove Hill, AL. After Rev. Primm's death, this led to him becoming the pastor of Orange Hill Baptist Church. After retiring from pastoring he became a member of Third Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. N. L. Powe in Whistler, AL.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland Barren Sr. and Blanche (Herron) Barren, one sister Mary Nixon and three brothers, Cleveland Barren Jr., Esau Barren and Benjamin Barren. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Ethel Marie Barren; one son James H. Barren Jr. of San Diego, CA; four daughters Andrea Cannon of Sacramento, CA; Yolanda (Teddy) Sinclair of Santa Rosa CA; Evelyn Barren of Houston TX; and Monica Coleman of Mobile AL; three grandsons Ashton Campbell, DaJon Coleman and Michael Moody; one granddaughter DaJah Colman; one sister Dorothy Gamble of Prichard Alabama.; three brothers Lee Barren Sr., Nathaniel Barren, and Joe Barren Sr., all of Mobile Alabama. Devoted niece (daughter) and caregiver, Adeana (Rev. Isadona) Pugh of Mount Vernon, Alabama; Goddaughter Sharon (Duane) Lewis of Eight Mile, AL; Faithful friends: Rev. Walter Sanders and Rev. Charles (Dorothy) Cooley, both of Mobile AL, and a host of relatives and friends
