The legal community (and the world) has lost a wonderfully kind and gentle soul. Mr. Barton will be sorely missed by all.

The kindness of Jim Barton will be sorely missed in our community. A wonderful example of how men should live in service to others.

Jim was a cousin of mine whom I came to know only in the past few years. I remember being in the home of our Aunt, Eva Belle Hyche, a few years ago, however, and listening to Jim tell some delightful stories of his days in the Alabama criminal courts. He had such a delightful wit and gentle spirit that I loved listening to him. We will all miss him, and though I am not able to get to Birmingham fast enough for the funeral, I would be honored to donate to the Crippled Shidlren's home in his...

Mr. Barton was a very kind man. I only worked at Johnston Barton for 6 months but during that time saw his kindness every time he came into the office. Always a smile on his face and a story to tell. I know that he will be greatly missed.
