Not sure what to say?

Dear Pat and family,
We are writing to express our deep sorrow at the news of Jim's passing. It has been our honor to have known him (and you) for over 30 years. We have so many fond memories of working with Jim on various committees and projects for the Research Society on Alcohol and always appreciated his advice and mentoring – as junior faculty becoming familiar with the alcohol research field and later his guidance as our careers developed. We also remember so many lively...

Dear Pat,

I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was such a kind and understanding man to me. From reading these messages, I get the feeling he was that way to a lot of people, but he made it feel like I was the only one. Just one of the markings of a great man, and he had many. I count myself lucky to have know him.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Pat,
As part of your Reynold's friends, Charlotte and I send our sincere sympathy. From golf, singing, working at our food pantry and just seeing him around, Jim left his foot print in Georgia and for that we are grateful.
Wishing you and family the best.
A friend
Jim Thorne

Dear Pat,
It was my good fortune to know Jim as he always was: a cheerful, insightful colleague and mentor who helped me through some very difficult days at ACER. Sarah and I always enjoyed being with the both of you at RSA, along with TK and Susan. Time will help to heal the pain of his loss, but the wonderful memories of your life together will always bring you comfort in the years ahead.
All the best, Ivan

I was very sorry to learn of Jim's passing--he was a fine scientist, and a happy, productive person. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Dear Pat,

I was deeply saddened to learn of the Jim's passing. For almost 30 years Jim and I were close colleagues due to his extensive service to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, as a Study Section member, a National Advisory Council member, and as a major contributor to many volumes of the Congressional Reports on Alcohol and Health. I considered Jim to be more than a colleague, but a mentor as well as a close friend. I remember the warm times that you Pat,...

Jim was such a great scientist and colleague. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Dear Pat,
I am so sorry to hear about Jim's passing. Working with him in the RSA and discussing many memories about Memphis, were always enjoyable. I loved to see his great smile. Our bus ride together at the ISBRA meeting in Australia years ago is a fond memory.

All my best wishes to you and your family,

Michael Miles

I was so sorry to read of Jim's death; he was a wonderful teacher and actually made it possible for me to get through renal physiology in medical school back in the early 60s. His work w/ Dr Knott was seminal.
