Jim was a dear friend and mentor to me for 36 years, from my first day as an Optacon teacher at Telesensory, to the generous opportunity he gave me when I acquired his second company, JBliss Imaging Systems in 2005. I kept his name in the company, to honor his contributions, and keep his inspiring presence alive.

He truly was a man of vision, who "brought light" - inspiration and access to information and meaningful work - to so many lives.

Jim was an innovator in work with the blind and a fine human being. His innovations will live on as his public legacy and his gentle manner and kindness will live on through those who knew him. My deepest condolences to the Bliss family.

Jim was a leader and innovator who had a tremendous influence on my life. My doctoral dissertation was a national evaluation of the Optacon project. I knew Jim through his invention of the Optacon and his work in the field of blindness and visual impairment. He was an inspiration in so many ways.. He was so bright, creative,approachable, generous, funny and had such incredible love for his family so. My life has been better because of him . My thoughts and prayers are with his family...

Mr. Bliss, my life has been so wonderfully enriched by your having been in the world and helped to develop the Optacon. May you rest in peace, and may your family find comfort in knowing how many lives were touched by yours.

Telesensory Systems played such a huge role in the Proscia family history. Jim has continued over the more recent years to be a supportive personal friend of our family and he will be missed. His battle was long, and he is now at peace. Joan, Pete and I want to express our sincere sorrow for your family's loss.
