Monarch Society Obituary

James Arthur Bolden IV (better known to most as Jim) of Denver, Colorado, passed away on October 20, 2021.  His health had declined rapidly the last few months; he was unknowingly battling colorectal cancer.  He was surrounded by family as he slipped away from us.

Jim was born on January 18, 1951, in Denver, Colorado to Jim and Frances Bolden.  He was the oldest of six and graduated from Manual High School in Denver, Colorado where he was a member of ROTC and was also an avid golfer.  He attended the University of Northern Colorado briefly on a golf scholarship and then enlisted in the Air Force in 1970.  He served in SE Asia at the height of the Vietnam war.

While serving in the military he gained some computer skills, and on his return to Denver he worked at the Federal Center as a computer operator.  He continued working in the IT Operations field at several locations in the Denver area, and managed teams of people at several of the places where he worked. His last place of employment was his dream job, in the pro shop at the Heather Gardens golf course.

He married Carolyn Aust in 1984, and eventually they had two children, Becca and Zach.  Jim’s family was the highlight of his life. He was a devoted father and husband and was his family’s biggest cheerleader and champion in whatever they were doing, whether learning to ice skate with his daughter or cheering for his son on the soccer field. During the 37 years of their marriage, Jim was a member and served in leadership at several local churches where Carolyn served as organist, choir director, music director or participant.

Jim was kind and generous, loved cooking for a crowd and loved the game of golf.  He is survived by wife Carolyn, children Becca and Zach, sisters Kimmi Anne, Lori and Lisa, and brothers Brett, Les and Ronald. He was preceded in death by sister Robyn.

A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 1:00pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church 1600 Grant St., Denver, CO 80203. Memorials may be made to Denver First Tee, Daddy Bruce Foundation or Black Lives Matter in memory of Jim.

Not sure what to say?

Happy Birthday my friend!! I sure do miss you

I got to know Jim this past summer as we played golf together in the men’s club at Heather Gardens. He had a good golf game and was always steady no matter how it went. His passing was way too soon.

James was my friend for almost 45 years. Though we hadn't seen each other in years, we talked all the time. I loved him and I miss him. My heart goes out to his family.

Dear Caroline, Becca, and Zach

I’m so sorry for your loss but so happy for all the time I got to spend with Jim. Jim always made me feel so welcome in your home and family. He loved you all so much and I that love extended to us. We spent so much time at your house growing up and I don’t think it was just because of the trampoline. You all made us feel like family and Jim was such a huge part of that.

I’ll especially always hold the memories of Zach and I’s birthday dear...

Thinking of you all during this hard time.

I’ve played golf with Jim at Heather Gardens this year for the first time and enjoyed his calm demeanor and good golf game. Jim, Tom Merges and I had lunch after golf many times and enjoyed good conversation. He will be sadly missed.
