Not sure what to say?

I was so sorry to just learn of this. He carpooled with me on several Audubon field trips in 2018-2019, and he was a fantastic conversationalist and listener. He described to me his work with early AIDS patients and his work on a genetic disease with a pocket of patients near Birmingham. His studies at St. John's later in life showed such a great curiosity and tenacity. He has been sorely missed, and I am sad to learn why he hasn't been attending outings. Much love to his family.

I was a medical student at South Alabama when Dr Bonner was the founding Chief of ID. He was a renaissance man in every respect. He knew a vast amount of practical medicine and as a student of the theory of medicine. He would encouragement me to read the New York review and recomended a variety of fascinating books. He left South for UAB where he practiced Allergy and some ID. He was one of the truly brilliant physicians who was also kind and socially conscious. I still recall his teaching...

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Bonner. He solved a lifelong mystery for me. I was tortured by giant hives and he helped me figure out the reasons for them. I haven´t seen him in years and today I looked his number up and saw this. I pray his family is doing well and know he is resting in peace. He was a kind man and an excellent doctor.

I was a high school classmate of Jim's in Sault Ste. Marie and his physics lab partner. Later we were both at the University of Michigan. I always enjoyed catching up with him at our class reunions and talked about him at the dinner our class had the first weekend in August, lamenting his absence and happy to have exchanged long emails earlier in the year. My condolences to Coralie, Alice, and Tom. DanaMarie Bedore Phillips

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Bonner as a nurse practitioner while at UAB and the Kirklin Clinic. He always treated me and everyone with kindness and respect. I am truly saddened to learn of his death and know he will be missed greatly by many.

I am so saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Aside from being a faithful friend, he was a dedicated Physician. It would not be a stretch to say that he saved my life when he pulled strings to get me into UAB Hospital for a very difficult heart procedure not available in Florida.

I was in a "Catholic Scholars" book club with Jim for several years. He was always gracious in sharing his knowledge and insights. I am so sad to see this news and offer my sincere condolences to the family. Bob

Jim will be missed by many. He was an admirable man. Our thoughts are with my sister, Coralie and niece Alice & nephew Tom.

Sending sincerest condolences. May you find peace in the memories of a life so well lived. With love.
