James Robert Branstetter

On this 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, and now 15 years after Uncle Robert´s passing, I´m reminded of the tremendous contributions made by his "greatest generation." Robert was part of the final Allied Army victory over Germany during the Battle of the Bulge in 1945. What an admirable patriot, family member, and gentleman he was. Proud to have known him.

It is sad to hear of Robert's passing. He was one of only 4 or 5 of 61 first cousins in the Branstetter family. Certainly all the remaining are near 90 or above. Two of the cousins lived passed 100. Several nearly got there. My father Charles lived to 101. It's good to have them with us for such a long time, but hard to let them go. I'm sorry that distance kept us from getting to know one another.

Di, Jack, and Jill: My wife and I send our sincerest sympathy in the loss of your father. Uncle Robert was a true gentleman and always a pleasure to talk with. He was the last of a great group of Branstetter siblings, and will be missed by all the family.

I just heard about Uncle Bob's death tonight. I wish I could be there with you Dianna, Jack & Jill. Too much time has gone by without being in touch. I will try to contact you all in a week or so.
