Athens James Walter "Jim" Brown, age 78 of Millfield, died Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at his home. Born October 21, 1946 in Athens, he was the son of the late Walter Brown and Pauline Bolin Brown.
A 1964 graduate of Chauncey Dover High School, he was a longtime resident of Alderman Road. Jim started Brown Plumbing and Heating in 1974 and operated the business with his brother, Danny. He was a member of Redman Lodge, Jacksonville Eagles and Jacksonville VFW. Earlier in life he enjoyed deer hunting, gardening and motorcycles.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Howard Brown; a daughter, Amy (Jeff) Shumway; two sons, James (Courtney) Brown, Jr. and Toby Brown; three grandchildren, Lexis Shumway, Brayden King and Addalynn Brown; a sister, Sheila (Oris) Smith of Millfield; a brother Danny Brown of Millfield; several nieces and nephews; and his pet companion dog, Emma.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Sharon "Kate" Smith. At Jim's request, a private family gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Shelter Dogs, PO Box 576, Athens, OH 45701.
