Jim was both my bravest friend, facing his health struggles with such courage, and my faithful friend, reaching out to me often and not fearing to ask about the challenges in my life. We were friends for over 50 years. I will enjoy thinking about times with Jim. And I will grieve the loss of this great friend.

French-American Aid for Children is saddened to learn of the passing of James L. Buttenwieser. As a true gentleman with a passion for France, James would regularly call our office and exchange ideas in French. We will miss these witty conversations. We are grateful for his generous donations to help underprivileged children and would like to present our condolences to the extended Buttenwieser family.

Jim called just about every week to ask how we were in Colorado. I'm so happy that we met several times over the years when I and my family visited NYC, and Jim always hosted us for a lovely dinner, He was a kind and generous man, and I truly enjoyed discussing travel or literature, and sometimes politics through the years. May he rest in peace.

A great gentleman in every sense of the phrase and my close friend for almost 40 years. His passing leaves a void. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
