Jim was a friend and a kind man. Sorry for his passing but we know he's at peace now.

Jim was a Marine that I always looked up to, his training may well be why I am alive today. He could be hard, with only eight weeks to get us ready for Viet Nam. I will always be thankful that I had the chance to know him. I will never forget him, or the lessons he taught me. Nov16 1966, my drill sgt, We met again at our 40th. and 45th reunions in San Diego as friends. My deepest condolences to his wife, June, and family.

I remember Jim for his kindness his smile and his laugh. He always gave me a hug when he came to the ER. He was on many of our calls when I was on the Fire department. Jim will be missed but now he is free. Prayers to the family

I had the privilege to meet and have the honor of knowing Sgt. Carolus in Marine Corps boot camp starting in September of 1966. He was our drill instructor and we could not have asked for a better one. He helped take a bunch of kids and made us into Marines that we will be eternally grateful for. That is a skill that not just anyone can possess.
Even though I was not in touch with Sgt. Carolus, it is obvious from other comments how many peoples lives and hearts he touched and it is...

Jim was a good friend, I loved his sense of humor and his smile. He was an amazing husband, father and trooper. "Fudgescicle" he will be missed. RIP Jim Reenie

He was my drill instructor at mcrd san diego sept -nov 1966...was a good guy and leader..met him again at a platoon 3317 boot camp reunion..semper fi jim !

Hello I got to know sgt. Jim when I was a recruit going through boot camp. He was tough as nails on me but the training provided a basis for staying alive in Vietnam and carried on later in my live. I didn't know him or any contact after boot camp. What other people are saying sounds like he was a very good and honorable man. SEMPER FI. Don Simon alias LURCH.
