Mr. James J. Cassidy, 82, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, July 8, 2012. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 16 at 9:45 am from the Rossi Funeral Home, 1937 Westfield Ave., Scotch Plains. The Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, in Scotch Plains, and Interment will be at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. James was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ. He lived in Anchorage, Alaska and Garwood, New Jersey before settling in Scotch Plains in 1958. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. James graduated from Seton Hall University in 1958, receiving his BS in Chemistry. James also received his MBA from Seton Hall University in 1965. He was the owner and president of Cassidy Chemical Co. Inc. as well as BT Products in Scotch Plains for 30 years, before retiring in 2010. Prior to founding Cassidy Chemical Co. Inc. and BT Products, he worked for Vulcan Materials Co. in Clark, where he was appointed Products Manager. He worked for GAF in Linden as well as M & T Chemical in Rahway in their Sales and Research Department.
James was an extremely active parishioner of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, serving as a Trustee for 15 years. In addition to being a Trustee, James served on the Parish Council, Finance Council, and Building & Grounds Committee. James was also a Charter Year Knight, an Adult Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Minister of Hospitality, and a member of the Holy Name Society, as well as the Knights of Columbus Fr. Nelligan Council. Additionally, James was a member of the American Chemical Society and American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society.
Surviving James are his beloved wife of 59 years, Patricia A. (nee Dowling), his loving sons Dr. Brian J. and his wife Linda, Dr. Thomas J. and his wife Lisa, his cherished grandchildren Kevin J., Gregory P., Colleen A., Douglas P., Matthew T., Thomas C., and his two caring brothers Eugene F. and John G. He is predeceased by his sister Margaret Sherrick, who passed away in 2012.
