Quiet strength was always my dominant impression of Jim Cather. We served together on the LSA administration and I often turned to him for friendly engagement and informed, sensible advice. The University of Michigan now has a sterling international reputation, this due in large part to the earlier contributions of faculty members like Professor Cather. May his memory endure.

Dear Jane, I'm so sorry to learn of Jim's passing. I have happy memories of you both at FFOA sessions. I loved hearing Jim's stories of his dog, so much love there. Sending deepest condolences and hugs your way.
