Not sure what to say?

My husband, Frank Vernon Hilliard (now deceased) and the alums of Waskom High School Class of 1948 and other classes of that time often talked with great respect and memories of James during their Friendship Reunions. I only knew him through their stories and of course we all thought of him when had a chance to drive by the big white Colquitt house.

Three of us have asked C. L. to sign the online Guest Book for us and send this note to the Family of James Colquitt with whom we attended school in Waskom. James was our dear friend and we will each miss him. Our minds are rich with wonderful memories of the good times we had watching James excel at basketball and volleyball. James was always kind and had a good word for everyone. He was very compassionate and was quick to lend a helping hand to those who were having difficulty with any...

My late husband, Douglas, was a classmate of James in Waskom, Texas and thought the world of him. He was a wonderful educator and the world has lost another great man. My condolences to his friends and family. Carol and Douglas Woods

I came to first know Jim in the 50's when he came to Spring Branch Junior High School as a beginning teacher. What a positive impression he made on us all! He was a talented teacher and administrator. He had a remarkable career at Spring Branch ISD and he touched the lives of so many in so many positive ways. My sincere condolences to his family.

James Colquitt....smart, consistently a serious student, consistently a good basketball player, consistently trustworthy in just about everything. But then he came from awfully good stock on both sides of his family, with an older brother and sister who set some pretty high achievement standards themselves. He sustained a terrible loss at age seven: the tragic death of his father, the doctor who was the good physician- equivalent of Atticus Finch ("To Kill a Mockingbird")for our town. He was...

The word that comes to my mind when I think of James is that he was a very sweet person. James was a corporate person. He always supported the group he was with. He always enhanced the life of that group. I, too, am a member of the Waskom High School Class of '48. I remember playing basketball with James. He was made captain of the team because he was a team player. James made basketball an art. He is sorely missed. Frank Vernon Hilliard

We all realize just how very short life is. May God bless you
