James Lewis Cooper, 81, of North Platte passed away August 14, 2024 at Great Plains Health.  He was born November 11, 1942 to Lewis and Florence (Gillette) Cooper in Sioux City, Iowa.


James was raised by his grandparents Ray and Bertha Cooper in North Platte.  He worked for Simons for several years and hired on Union Pacific Railroad in 1969 as a carman, retiring in 2002.  James married Carol Janulewicz on April 27, 1963 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.


James enjoyed going to auctions, collecting cookie jars and salt and pepper shakers.  He also enjoyed going to stockcar races.  James raised cattle and liked going to county fairs.  He liked watching the western channel and enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.


Survivors include five children, Suzi (Tom) Johnson of Hershey, Tim (Nancy) Cooper of Hershey, Shelly (Kevin) Young of Hershey, Jodi (Scott) Seamann of Hershey, David Cooper of North Platte; grandchildren, Amanda (Kyle) Gill of Hershey, Trey (Breezie) Johnson of North Platte, Dylan Johnson of Hershey, Jarid (Lakyn) Cooper of Hershey, Megan (Trevor) Courter of Hershey, Zack Cooper of North Platte, Haley (Tanner) Baker of North Platte, Chanda Cooper of North Platte, Sierra Young of North Platte, Jenna (Kamron) Hubbard of Arcadia, Sage Young of Hershey, Maddie (Caleb) Brown of North Platte, Dawson Seamann of North Platte, Rylee Seamann of Curtis, Allie Cooper of North Platte, Issac Cooper of North Platte; nineteen great grandchildren; siblings, Jean Goltry of North Platte, Betty Cade of Council Bluffs, Karen Mawhinney-Keck of Omaha, Larry Cooper of Omaha, Gerry Cooper of Papillion, David Huddle of Arlington, Donna Carmichael of Omaha, Jimmy Cooper of Omaha, Kathy Cooper of Omaha; sister-in-law, Linda Cooper of North Platte, Dr. Gerald (Janet) Janulewicz of Grand Island; numerous other family members and many friends.


Preceding James in death is his wife, Carol; parents, Lewis and Florence Cooper; grandparents, Ray and Bertha Cooper; in-laws, Ray and Evelyn Janulewicz; sister, Nancy Grosse; great grandson, Grayson Gill.

Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 19, 2024 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating.  Burial will follow at North Platte Cemetery.  Visitation will be held noon-4:00, with family present 2:00-4:00, on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Always enjoyed visiting with Jim at the auctions and watching him happily carry his loot to his tiny car! He was a joy! So sorry for your loss!
