I knew Jim from when we both started Hopkins as fellow math Grad students in 1969. Even though we were both from Philly, I went to Dougherty, I relished his friendship. Later I had a sabbatical at USNA (1991-1992) while he was Chairman. He was a good man, and those who knew him professionally will always appreciate his humor.

I just read about Dr. D'Archangelo's passing when I tried to send him an e-mail after I found a course syllabus from an evening class that I took from him in Fall 2010. I wish I had tried to reach out to him sooner. Dr. D was a great teacher and a really nice guy. He was always prepared and able to explain abstract and elegant concepts in advanced mathematics in an easy to understand way. And then during intermission he was always congenial and great to chat with. My condolences to his...

I just heard this news. Very sad. Mr. D'Archangelo coached me in soccer 30 years ago and I still remember it fondly. Of all the dozens and dozens of coaches I have had over the years, he was the kindest and most patient of all. I would get upset and he would calm ME down. Very sorry to hear of this. I'm sure he will be missed a great deal by a very large number of people whose lives he has touched.

Jim was one of my first professors when I started as a Math Major back in 1978. When I returned in 1997 as a Military Professor, Jim was a mentor and one of the people I trusted for guidance. He will be missed by so many people he touched.

I was a friend and colleague of Jim for over 40 years at the U.S. Naval Academy. As a Naval Academy graduate and retired Naval Officer, I developed a great admiration for Jim's skill and dedication in the training and leadership development of thousands of future Naval Officers. He was a gifted athlete demonstrated as we shared tennis matches and played softball together over the years. Two weeks before his untimely death he contacted me about renewing our tennis matches, He will be...
