Jim was a role model and mentor to me when we met early in my AAL career. I admired Jim for many reasons - he was devoted to his family, he was a skilled pilot, and a great leader - but I most admired the way he seemed to always bring people together. He was inclusive by nature, and from him I learned the power of partnership and collaboration. Jim was one of our great pilots, and his influence will continue to be felt over a 30+ year generation at AA. Many of us walked away shaking our heads at his brilliance, as he made the complex simple, and brought depth and integration to our professional skills. Few could connect the dots as well as Jim.
It was my very great personal and professional pleasure to serve under Jim for several years on the B777 fleet. I am a better man because of that.
