"CHIEF"AS I ALWAYS ADDRESSED HIM WAS MY COACH, MY TEACHER AND MY FRIEND. WE MET AT RUGBY ACADEMY IN 1943. CHIEF WAS A YOUNG MAN WHO IDENYIFIED WITH HIS STUDENTS AND ATHLETES. IN MY SENIOR YEAR AT RUGBY WE WERE RIVERSIDE CHAMPS WITH A 17 MAN FOOTBALL TEAM, A 6 MAN TRACK TEAM AND AN AGRESSIVE COACH.
CHIEF AND HIS WIFE BECAME GOOD FRIENDS WITH MOST PARENTS OF HIS ATHLETES.
IN 1944 HE ARRANGED WITH L S U COACH BERNIE MOORE FOR MY SPOT ON THEIR TRACK TEAM.

My condolences to the family. Jimmy Dean crossed my path many times, first as my coach at Rugby, then as Asst Principal at Easton when I taught Social Studies, and then he was a champion Administrator when I served as a Member of the Orleans Parish School Board. Many fond memories can be retold.
