Not sure what to say?

My fondest memory of Jim is the wonderful way he treated the horn section here in Buffalo when we were in California. Had us over for a big pot of Chili and helped us enjoy a wonderful day off. Reminded us that he lived right down the street from Bo Derick!! Spent the day hoping she would walk pass. A very famous man that made the rest of us horn players feel his equal. Do miss seeing him at the International Symposium.

Studied with Mr Decker at USC. Was a great teacher, supportive, caring and truly loved what he did. Great loss for all.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Belated sympathy from Gerald and Gary Spring, Wales, UK

Mr. Decker was a nurturing, caring teacher and helped me at a difficult transitional time in my young horn-playing life. He set an example that I try and live up to in my own playing and teaching- Thanks, Jim!

To Jim's family - we only knew all of you a short time, while Jim and Dick were roommates in the hospital, but were so saddened to read of his passing. He was so lovingly and faithfully visited by Mary and Doug, and we enjoyed hearing about his amazing career. We are sorry we didn't know him earlier. You are all so fortunate to have had each other for so many years. He obviously touched and made a difference in many lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Linda and Dick Landes

A great friend, player, and teacher. Jimmy will be missed.

Our lose is Jimmy's gain. I am sure he is already in rehearsal in that "other orchestra" where he will really be appreciated.

I've known Jim since 1973 when he came to Mirafone to test our horns, and tuben. He was not only a magnificent hornist, but had a sense of humor that rivaled his playing. Simply put, he was a terrific person. My heartfelt sympathy to Mary and his entire family.
Sincerely,
Mike Zucek
