James M. Deeter, 64, a resident of Anderson started his transition on August 27, 2005.

He was born April 23, 1941 in Point Isabelle, IN, the son of Morton and Hariett Deeter.

He was an electrician by trade and worked for L & L Electric out of Fortville. He farmed in the Anderson and Pendleton area. He was owner of Deeter Leasing and an agent for Ranger Transportation till 1996. He worked for Steve Schmidt Automotive and Racing and was an owner - operator for Carter Express until 2005. He served in the US Marines and was a member of the Fortville Masonic Lodge.

His great passion in life was drag racing. He held many titles in his racing career and loved every moment of it!

Jim was a diamond in the rough. He had a heart of gold and helped many people throughout his life and expected nothing in return. He was a hard working man all his life. Devoted husband and a wonderful father.

He is survived by his wife and friend of 30 years, Sylvia Jean Deeter, four daughters, Debbie Deeter, Pam Barcus, Jennifer Goodman and Michelle Back; eleven grandchildren; two brothers, Mike Deeter and Tim Deeter; five sisters, Marilyn Stone, Donna Grubbs, Sue Holloway, Margaret Johnson and Rachel Butler; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Mike and Bev Burns, Dennis Burns and John Fuller.

He was preceded in death by his parents. A son James Douglas Deeter, a brother Dave Deeter.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Rev. Jane Evanstar officiating. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Local Cancer Fund at St. John’s Medical Center.

Jim was a jewel of a guy. I worked with him while I was at Carter Express. He was outspoken but honest to a fault. I am sure he will be missed by many.
