James A. Degroot

James A. DeGroot, 58, of 2012 Wetton Avenue, Marquette, died Monday evening, May 26, 2008 at his home in the care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice. Jim was born on December 22, 1949 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Lloyd and Martha Doney DeGroot. He was raised most of his life in Green Bay before moving to Marquette and graduating from Bishop Baraga High School in 1968. Jim later attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Laboratory Technique in Minneapolis graduating from there in 1976. He returned to Marquette where he was employed as a medical technologist at Marquette Family Practice from 1976 – 1985. Jim began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1985 where he held various positions until retiring due to illness. He loved being outdoors spending time on Lake Superior and the Bayou off of Lakewood Lane where his parents resided. Jim enjoyed many good times around the bonfire at Lakewood Lane. He is survived by his wife, Jacalyn DeGroot; two sons, Mark Ashley and Matthew DeGroot, all of Marquette; two grandchildren, Baileigh and Bryar DeGroot; two sisters, Patricia Dale Spiegelhoff of Clintonville, WI and Mary Danny VerHaag of Green Bay, WI; two brothers, Michael Judith DeGroot of Reedville, VA and Paul Sue DeGroot of Minneapolis, MN; also numerous nieces, nephews, his mother-in-law, a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in Green Bay.
