Connor-Healy Funeral Home - Manchester Obituary

James Demos, 94, of Hampton, NH, died on January 20, 2025. He lived a long and happy life.

He was born in Manchester, NH in 1930 to Costas Demos and Panayiota (Lillian) Merisotis. He attended Central High School and Hesser College.  He served stateside in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. While in the Air Force, due to his father’s illness, James was called back home to take over his father’s business, Demos Variety, a Manchester East Side landmark for decades.  After running the business for 25+ years, he continued working in numerous positions until the age of 89.  He believed and lived in the axiom “If you stop, you drop”.

James is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Judith (Lovering); his daughter, Jennifer Kennett; and sister, Theresa Reffi.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Penelope (Lawrence) Rothfield of Stonington, CT; a son, Michael (Penny) Demos; and a sister, Angelina (Kiki) Marquis of Hampton, NH. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.

He cherished his family, he loved days on the beach, traveling, big-band jazz, ice cream, cooking, dining out, and making galatopita for his kids and grandkids. His kindness and love will be remembered by all who knew him. He kept us amused with his sense of humor until the end.

The family is extremely grateful for the outstanding care he received from the Veteran’s Administration and the Visiting Angels.

Services: Calling hours are Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM at Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH.

That is a fabulous picture. I just Loved Jimmy❣ We had a very close relationship and I always enjoyed being with him and helping him through my work from the Visiting Angels. He had the best dry sense of humor; always making me laugh. I use to love taking him food shopping at MB. He really enjoyed cooking and he even started baking one layer cakes. Jimmy taught me the different short cuts when driving around Hampton. He introduced me to the awesome Soup Place on Rt 1 and we had fun...
