Not sure what to say?

I remember admiring Jimmy when he was a teenager, and I was just a little girl. Our family used to spend a night or two in Richmond. with Aunt Ellen and her family, as we made our annual trek from Charlotte to Lake George. I think my brothers, Tom and John admired him, too!

I worked with Jim 15 years in Atlanta. I am forever grateful to him for mentoring and training me. I enjoyed working with him and grew fond of him over the years. He was one of most influential people on my life. Thank you Jim.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Jim was the main reason I pledged Phi Gam when I was a freshman in the fall of `58. Have always respected and admired him as a person. Mark Frazer.

Jackie and I moved to Richmond, as newly weds from Norfolk and Virginia Beach in June, 1961, and two of the very first people we met in Richmond were Jimmy and Mary Bruce. There were several young couples in that apartment community, and we had a delightful time partying together. Jackie and I later became members of All Saints Episcopal Church where we again met up with the DeVoes. Jimmy was responsible for getting me on many committees and the Vestry at All Saints. I considered him a...

Sad news. My sincere condolences to the family. I remember Jimmy very well as we enjoyed and shared Brotherhood in Phi Gamma Delta. He was our wise, effective leader in my junior year. Always cheerful, enthusiastic, encouraging, he inspired us all. He will live on in the memories he shaped with family and friends. My prayers are with you all. Sincerely, Luis W Morales, RC `60

The DeVoes were our favorite neighbors in Dallas. We loved that family and shared many fun times with them. Jimmy and Mary Bruce were the ultimate hosts and it felt like taking a course in Entertainment 101 living next door. Some of our most cherished memories are of the times we got to spend with the whole family. Blessings and God's Grace to Mary Bruce, Libby, Mary Garner and the whole family. Much love to you all!

I remember my first cousins, Jimmy and Garner DeVoe, from the 1950s, when my parents (John and Kitty Apperson) used to bring us to visit with Dad's sister (Ellen Apperson Devoe, and her husband, Garner), in Richmond, when we were on our way to and from Lake George, in the Adirondacks. I was born in 1950, so Jimmy and Garner were teenagers when I first met them. Jimmy was named after his uncle, Jim Apperson, who was a bachelor, working at General Electric, first in Lynn, Mass, and later in...

I met Mr. DeVoe about 8 years ago. I was out walking very early one morning, and he'd accidentally locked himself out of his house. It was an auspicious start to a sweet friendship with him and Mary Bruce. Mr. DeVoe was a kind and loving man, and I will miss chatting with him. My thoughts are with Mary Bruce and the rest of the DeVoe family.
