SGT First Class, James Green Dix Jr., age 78, entered into eternal rest on Thursday February 10, 2022 at Valley Baptist Medical Center with his loving wife by his side. He was born August 31, 1943 in Danville, Virginia son to James Green Dix Sr. and Gracie Rudd Dix. He joined the United States Armed Forces at an early age of 18 years old and made it a career retiring from the Army as a Sergeant First Class. He completed two combat tours of duty in Vietnam and Korea earning the National Defense Service Medal, Parachutist Badge, Good Conduct Medal (4th award), and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. After retirement he enjoyed fishing, working on cars and billiards. He never met a stranger and loved a good conversation over a cup of coffee.
James is preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Viola Dix and a son, Samuel Allen Dix.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memory his common-law-wife, Maria G. Morillon, three children, Virginia Sanborn (David), Jamie Coffman, James Dix III (Petra Hughes-Dix), 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, uncles and aunts.
Graveside Funeral Service with full military honors will be held on Monday February 14, 2022 at 10:00 am at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, Mission with full military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post # 205 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2410.
