Obituary

James Douglas, an actor known best for playing Grant Colman on “As the World Turns,” during the 1970s and ‘80s, has died, according to multiple news sources. He was 86.

Douglas died March 5. No cause of death was announced.

The actor also played the ever-present attorney Steven Cord on the prime-time soap “Peyton Place,” his first major role. Other television credits included the soaps “Another World,” “The Edge of Night,” and “One Life To Live.” His TV appearances weren’t limited to soaps, however. He played a variety of roles on “Death Valley Days,” “Father Knows Best,” “The Donna Reed Show,” and “The Farmer’s Daughter,” among others.

Douglas acted in films as well, including “G.I. Blues” (1960), alongside Elvis Presley, and “Sweet Bird of Youth” (1962).

In a 1968 interview with Vernon Scott, who was the Hollywood correspondent at the time for United Press International, Vernon said he was grateful for the “Peyton Place” role, but he wanted to move on.

“I joined the show in 1965 after it had been on the air nine months,” Douglas told the correspondent. “It was episode 77. Now, 400 episodes later, I think I’ve had enough.”

A native of Los Angeles, California, Douglas was born May 20, 1929.

I have been watching the entire PEYTON PLACE series for the first time since it originally aired. So sorry to find that James has passed. God Bless his family and friends...

James Douglas is just like my high school teacher I had. His name too is Jim and he was born May 14 1942. He sounded just like him and was devoted to his job. He passed away on Feb. 22nd 2019 unfortunately. 2 great people I really miss.

I'm currently watching G I Blues and recognized James right off. Very attractive man and a great actor who I was first introduced to through TV as he appeared on As The World Turns.
