Not sure what to say?

Really not sure what to add to my earlier eulogy but know I want to say something more. James was the most erudite historian of ideas I have ever known. I loved his classes, the gourmet dinners and delicious wine he served for students at his beautiful A-Frame house at the end of each semester, his insightful commentary on almost any intellectual topic. He greatly affected my thinking in many ways. Rest well.

He was always laughing in class. He'd ask a student's opinion on a text and then begin to chuckle while cross referencing the original greek source. At the end of the year he invited his students to his home for dinner. He made a meal from the recipes of Apicius. I feel blessed to have known James Dye. Lovely man with a wonderful mind.

PS Do not forget he was a great runner. A marathoner, no?

I was James' student in the mid-90s. He was an awesome teacher, knew more about the history of ideas than and other man I've ever met, and he will be sorely missed.

So sorry for your loss Aunt Dorothy.
