James R. Ellegate

To Jim's family and friends.
Jim was my student at SUC Oneonta more than 20 years ago, but his good humor, kind nature and keen intellect distinguished him from his peers. He clearly did the same as a professional, friend, and father. The sorrow I feel at his passing is tempered only by the priviledge and honor I feel for having known him as a friend. My sincerest sympathies.

Hard to admit I first met Jim nearly 25 years ago, but first impressions last a lifetime and Jim's is certainly without comparison. Many have already expressed the compassion and even keel that carried him forward with seemingly little effort. When I think of Jim, I go back to those early mornings in Jr. High and Sr. High walking to school with the Allens, Royce Johnson and others. Some days that was the best time of the school day.

I remember fun times in the library and at school. I also enjoyed meeting up with Jim after spring track practice and getting a ride home through upper Wilber Park on his snowmobile.
