Rev. Jamie Evans, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Fresno, went home to his Lord Thursday, February 25, 2010. His life was in many ways a miracle, because of the many challenges he had to overcome. Within the last year he suffered from a deep and severe depression, complicated by his...

Not sure what to say?

I have not seen Jamie since we gradutated from Princeton Seminary in 1985, but I remember very well his determination in overcoming his disabilities, but even more his graciousness to all, even those of us with whom he had some theological differences. Kristy, Nathan, Kelly, and the whole family and church family are in my prayers. I pray that Jamie is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.

Grace & peace,

I remember the first time I saw Jamie at Princeton. It was like seeing Louie at 22. We had not seen one another in ten years, but became fast friends. Our dads had worked on cars together; we went to seminary together. Jamie was so completely sincere and joyful. Even though there was much that could have stolen his joy he chose intentionally to be a reflection of the peace of Christ. And as he did he filled us with the same. My ministry is touched with the enthusiasm Jamie shared. May...

Jamie provided a warm welcome to my family and me when we first arrived at First Pres. We will truly miss him but will forever be thankful that we knew him. His impact went around the world. Thinking and praying for the Evan's Familyhere in Kabul afghanistan today.

When we were young, we used to sneak away from our respective cabins at church retreats to resume our endless conversations. Sometimes we walked and talked all night long about what we wanted to discover and accomplish in life, always with an eye out for falling stars--and of course at 15 Jamie knew the name of every constellation in the sky.

Now our hearts are broken, but there is joy in this: so many of Jamie's dreams did come true. Kristy, Nate, and Kelly, he was so very proud...

His memory will never fade.

After about 10 years or so being away, I returned to First Presbyterian Church, Fresno in November of 2008. I'd joined the choir again for Chrismas. It was good to be back, and felt like I had never left - except there was a new pastor. Jamie had been there since 2001, but I hadn't actually met him until Christmas Eve. He came up to me BETWEEN services and introduced himself. He even called me by name! He welcomed me and he said something to the affect of "actually, you were here before...

I was privileged to attend Jamie's Single Adult Sunday School classes during the years he served with Presbyterian Church at New Providence. Jamie was an inspiring educator and a wonderful, caring person. My prayers and sympathies are with his family.

The words Jaime shared each Sunday impacted and changed many peoples lives. I am not sure what we are to learn from his sudden departure, but God will show us in his time. Hopefully we will all learn how difficult it is to deal with depression and other mental illinesses, the impact is tremendous and devastating for all involved, only God can help. With God's help we will all learn from what Jaime went through and the impact it had on those around him. I am sorry for not taking the time to...
