Jim attended college for one year at Iowa State where he was on the basketball team, then graduated from Drake University in 1958 with a degree in accounting. While at Drake, he met his future wife, the former Jo Ann Geiger, and they were married August 31, 1957.  Following graduation, he became a CPA and worked at Arthur Andersen & Co. from 1958 - 1991, retiring as a tax partner in St. Louis. Jim believed in giving back and served on many boards, including the Presbyterian Church of America Foundation, Girl Scouts of America, Chairman of Trustees at Drake University, President of the Board at the Missouri Athletic Club, and an advisor to the Covenant Seminary Board. He also liked to stay active, enjoying fly fishing, handball, squash, racquetball, and tennis. Jim was a follower of Christ who shepherded many, taking pride in his role as a church elder at The Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church.

Jim is survived by his wife Jo Ann G. Ewoldt, their two children, Jeffery A. Ewoldt (Brandi) and Leah E. Custer (Stephan), and grandchildren Davis, Laina, Natalie, Elizabeth, and Maxwell. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roy W. Ewoldt and Lee A. Ewoldt.

Not sure what to say?

Jo Ann - Greatly saddened by this news, we are sorry for your loss. It was my privilege to be Jim's colleague and partner in our years together at Arthur Andersen - what were the odds that two of us from the same little Iowa village would share that experience? And your generous friendship in our adventuring in the South more than fifty years ago remains a memory filled with gratitude. In sorrow and with warm regards for you and your family in this time of grieving. Jim

Dear Jo Ann and family, Mom (Nancy) and I are so sorry for your loss. Our hearts are with you in this time of transition. Mom added, "we loved laughing with Jim." We are sure there's a couple of good friends up there fishing as Jim and Gene reunite.
Blessings, Nina Gabianelli

Jo Ann, very sorry for your loss.

Dear Jim, Was just a wonderful friend.....he had been our tennis partner for nearly 30 years....just a delightful individual. He came to bat for me in a very critical moment, and I will always remember his clear mindedness, even keel attitude.....and engaging nature. For more than 35 years we regularly would discuss bank investing which was one of his favor pastimes....he read every annual report with great enthusiasm....and I would also go hunt down the answer....just a delightful human...

We love you Jamie and will miss you,

You truly will be missed

Jim was a very good friend for many years--more than fifty. Although I have not seen him frequently in recent years, I will always remember him as a a great friend, an excellent CPA and a tenatious competitor on the tennis court. I will miss you Jim.

Jim was a good man and father. He will be missed by all. Much love to the family.
