Reverend James W. Gatlin

Brother Jim, as he we called him; a great & Godly Man. I came to know him when my Mother, Sandy, invited me to Goodman Road Baptist Church many years ago. He & his Beloved wife, Mrs. Joan, were so loving & supportive during the tragic loss of our dear Mother. Although I lived out of town, I visited their church as often as I could. I remember Mother saying, "watch, I´m going to make him smile," during his sermons. And he did. Oh what a beautiful smile, and many memorable moments did he share....

My Dad, Luther Elbert Gatlin, Jr, took me to hear Jimmy preach at Goodman Road Baptist Church on several occasions. He really enjoyed his preachings and his character. He was proud of him. I would hear stories, which is the only way I knew I was distantly related. I can still hear him in my memories. I will remember him that way always. I am sorry I didn't get to know him better!
