LANCASTER / LEOMINSTER

James T. Gibson, 79, of 35 Bigelow Gardens, died Friday, August 16, at home, after a sudden illness.

He is survived by two sisters; Dorothy J. Brockelman and her husband, Robert G., of Lancaster, and Nina C. Wilson and her husband, Fred, of Keene, NH; 12 nieces and nephews, and one grandnephew, Damien Suomala. He was predeceased by a sister, Esther Maples, and three brothers: Paul I., Jr., Richard A., and Donald W. Gibson.

James was born and raised in Leominster, the son of Paul I. and E. Colone (Setzer) Gibson, Sr., and attended local schools, including the former Saxton Trade School in Leominster.

For many years, James worked as a machine operator in the textile manufacturing industry before his retirement.

In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering with all things mechanical and took special interest repairing and rebuilding cars. Above all, he most enjoyed time spent in the company of his family, and his many nieces and nephews.

Jimmy introduced me to country music at the age of 9. Most evenings you would find a bunch of us kids sitting on the front porch of Howard St listening to him play the guitar and sing to us. I have so many wonderful memories of Howard St and the Gibson family. I called Jimmy on occasion, to see how he...
