Karen Sorry to learn of Jim`s death. He was always such a pleasant fellow. We enjoyed his enthusiasm about things. Sending our condolences to you and your family. Mary Ann and Jay Klompmaker

Classmates at VHS. Recalling our class time drawing "Fredregibo" specialized vehicles. The three Jims, including Shields shared Trigonometry class as I remember. I also remember some rides in the Ford station wagon with the cool sounding Smitty glaspack duals. I remember driving around the field behind their house in a `35 Ford pickup I think. This is a wonderful testament to the many contributions Jim made to the field of toxicology. It´s amazing that his long career spanned corporate settings, high-powered research labs, and academic institutions. He was a man of great curiosity and intellectual prowess.

Saddened to hear of Jim´s passing. Best of friends during school years in West Des Moines. Both participated together in outside School activities 4-H and JA as well as enjoying memorable years at Valley High School. Like Jim, I graduated from University of Iowa. I also knew Jim´s next older brother Tom very well. Jim´s mother & my Mother were also very good friends. They were family that was well thought of in the community. Again, saddened to hear of Jim´s passing. - Jim Shields
