Continue to rest easy Dad. Your grandson Naval Aviator Lt. Jai Leon Gilchrist II is currently stationed in Whidbey Island Washington State with Squadron VP-47. He has been in for 5.5 years now. I can imagine how proud you all are of him, he's an Amazing young man. I am so very Proud of him. This picture was taken in honor of you at the NNOA 50th Anniversary in Maryland, 29 July 2022. Sorry to just learn of Captain Gilchrist's passing last August. From 1959 to 61, Mr. Gilchrist was our Navigations Officer and flight crew member on Crew 4 and later crew 11 in Patrol Squadron Eight. I last Leon at our VP8 Alumni Reunion in Pensacola in 2003. He was a fine man, modest and caring and respected and an inspiration to all who knew him.

I met Leon Gilchrist through our Rotary Club of Tallahassee. Although I did not have the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with him, I was greatly impressed by his strength of character and wisdom. He was a model of the Rotary concept of Service Above Self. Donald Parks
