James D. "Jim" Gillum 92, of Decatur, IL passed away 1:35 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2015, in his residence.
A graveside service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2015, in Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Decatur with military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard and the US Navy Honors Team. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois Charitable Fund. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.
Jim was born July 26, 1923, in Paris, Il the son of Wastella (Gillum) Garrett. He married Maxine Jones on May 15, 1948. Jim had served in the US Navy during WW II on the USS The Sullivans (DD537) as a Gunner's Mate in the South Pacific. He recently was a proud naval veteran who participated in the Honor Flight on June 6, 2015. Jim retired as the manager of mail processing from the US Postal Service after thirty-two years of service.
Surviving is his wife: Maxine of Decatur, sons: Rick L. Gillum and his wife Linda of Decatur and James T. Gillum and his wife Sheila of Hattiesburg, MS; daughters: Debra Ann Sigfried and her husband Terry of Decatur, Kim Black and her husband Randy of Decatur, and Kay Lynn Lappin and her husband Max of Decatur; thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter also survive.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers.
